I EARNED MY BACHELOR OF FINE ART DEGREE WITH A DOUBLE MAJOR IN PHOTOGRAPHY FROM KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY AND ALSO STUDIED TOWARDS MY MFA AT UNIVERSITY IN LONDON ENGLAND ON SCHOLARSHIP. My name is Roxanne and am a professional artist in the Lehigh Valley; Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown area. Close to Northern New Jersey.
I work in all mediums; watercolor, oils, acrylics, pen and ink, pastels, graphite, charcoal, various pencil type mediums: watercolor pencils, Inktense pencils, color pencil. I have several pictures of my artwork posted under GALLERY in the main menu. I also work in miniature scale  1/12th  [ one inch to one foot scale ] Dollhouse miniature art such as drawing and painting. I have a section in the menu dedicated to miniature dollhouse artwork. I have designed many beautiful miniature flowers in paper and placed in book form with directions. Teaching all these years I understand that pictures are so important for some to be able to follow along as they make their own paper flowers for a dollhouse and or miniature collection shadow box for example.
Being an artist is a wonderful gift and talent that needs to be nurtured and guided by another professional artist that understands the creative process. Studying with an artist that is able to teach and understand your needs is so very important. Not all artist are teachers nor professional and able to convey concepts in art that will be beneficial for your improving skill levels in various mediums.
Learning the basic fundamentals is very important for all drawing mediums as well as every medium; charcoal, colored pencils and graphite etc. Being able to draw and understanding the Elements in Drawing and Life drawing are KEY to be able to paint and improve skill in a painting medium for example. So, if you are a painter that doesn’t consider yourself an artist and are trying to improve your skill level and understanding I ask you to start drawing and at least start simple easy drawing exercises. You will be amazed how fast you will be able to improve your skill and approach. If you are frustrated with the progress of your artwork and you just can’t make your art better? Â The reason is because you don’t understand how to draw and most likely do not have a strong drawing foundation.
The proper papers and tools to match each medium will improve the success of the outcome tremendously. I have many hours acquired in all the drawing techniques; charcoal and life drawing, colored pencil and graphite. I have worked in landscape drawing, still life, portrait and figure drawing, [Life drawing].
Very importantly, you must want to create and produce your artwork. I can teach you basic to advanced skill techniques to improve skill, but you must want to work on your artwork at home in between art lessons.  This way I have something to work with when you are here. I understand sometimes there just does not seem to be enough time to always work as we’d like, but at least try to  sketch briefly  if all possible.
My schedule is full some days with family and home, plus my own artwork. Â I have been working on my photography portfolio the past three years and I have days dedicated to my artwork as well. Â I will work with your schedule and I do try to confirm appointments, if I don’t hear anything from you I assume we still have an appointment set. Art lessons are 90 minutes long; which the time just goes so quickly!
→ Very Important: A parent is expected to stay and welcomed to participate with their son/daughter if they wish. The younger students like to see their parent try to draw for example; it really is a nice time to spend with your child/grandchild and a lot of smiles and laughs!  Sometimes we do meet together if a few of us are all painting in watercolor for example. My artist friends and students simply schedule a time for an art lesson: weekly, bi-weekly; all depends.
It is a fabulous and well deserved treat for anyone that really wants to participate in art lessons. It is very refreshing to make time for yourself!
I suggest  like I mentioned keeping  a sketch book or doodle book of sorts at hand as well for putting down ideas for future use; sometimes there isn’t enough time to paint that day but  at least you don’t forget the idea.  Plus,  it keeps your drawing skill sharp and over time you will improve and glad your took a few moments to jot ideas down or doodle. Practicing drawing exercises will help you with control in graphite and learn the value scale. Do not draw on paper such as computer paper, this paper is not designed for graphite. Buy a tablet that is at least 140 lb. or better. They can be found in art stores. Don’t waste your time sketching on cheap paper or computer paper!
Also draw the subjects you love, if you love your dog or cat start there. Drawing subjects you love will add to your art passion and will help you when starting out. I am an accomplished professional artist and I can hold a productive constructive [positive] critiques.
